Bloomington, just south along I-494

Bloomington is the cluster of blocks directly south of the airport, where I-494 crosses 34th Avenue South and American Boulevard East runs beside the freeway. It shares the near bank of the Minnesota River with both terminals, so its shuttle ride to either one crosses no river. From south Minneapolis, MN 77 drops you onto I-494; from Edina or the west, I-494 carries you to the exit.

Two lots work here, and their shuttles run through the night, circle every 5 to 10 minutes in busy hours and stop beside your car. The ride is 1.7 miles to Terminal 2, about 6 minutes, and 3.2 miles to Terminal 1, about 8. Open-air space starts from $17 a day and garage space under a roof from $22 a day, set to take in the lot's fees, with Minnesota sales tax added by the lot. It suits most of the metro when the flight leaves from Terminal 2.

Highland Park, off West 7th Street

Highland Park is the one place on the Saint Paul side, north of the Mississippi: Davern Street, just off West 7th Street (MN 5) near Shepard Road. Drivers from downtown Saint Paul follow Shepard Road; Roseville comes down I-35E. The one site holds open-air rows, a four-level ramp with a roof over its three lower levels (the lot picks your level), and a separate open area for oversized vehicles.

Open-air space begins from $18 a day, ramp space from $20 a day and oversized room from $46 a day, with the lot's fees set inside each figure and sales tax added by the lot. Shuttles to Terminal 1 go every 15 to 20 minutes from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm, 3.0 miles in about 7 minutes. Runs to Terminal 2 (4.5 miles, about 10 minutes) and late runs come on request: you call the lot from the pickup area. It suits the north and east flying from Terminal 1.

Say if you leave from Terminal 2 or land late, as those runs come on request, and give height and length for the oversized lot.

Eagan, over the Minnesota River

The Eagan lot sits on Lexington Avenue South at I-494, east of the airport on the far bank of the Minnesota River. From Burnsville, Apple Valley and Lakeville you take I-35E north to I-494; from Woodbury, I-494 brings you in directly. From Eagan itself the lot adds 1 minute for Terminal 1, and from Apple Valley and Lakeville it ties with Bloomington at 4 minutes.

Every space here is open-air, from $15 a day, with the lot's fees inside the figure and sales tax added by the lot. The shuttle runs all night about every 15 minutes, meets you at your car, and its buses leave room for skis and golf bags. Its road is 5.7 miles to Terminal 1, about 10 minutes, and 6.1 miles to Terminal 2, about 13. Longer vehicles can take several spaces when the lot has notice, at an added charge the lot sets itself.

Give us your vehicle length if it runs past one normal space, and mention skis or golf bags so the lot expects them.

Hotel lots with their own shuttle

Some hotels in Bloomington and South St. Paul sell parking on its own, with no room attached, from $13 a day, set to take in the hotel's parking fees, with sales tax added by the hotel. You leave the car in the hotel lot and ride its shuttle, which runs on a schedule: every 20 to 60 minutes, with a break overnight. A few run to Terminal 1 only, and the free light rail carries you on to Terminal 2 at any hour.

Some hotels ask for a minimum stay, and one in South St. Paul will drive you from your car on request. Hotel lots fit a longer stretch away and a flight at a civil hour; a dawn departure is harder, as the first bus may leave too late. We read the hotel's shuttle schedule to you before anything is reserved.

Hotel lots sit on two sides of the airport, in Bloomington and South St. Paul, so the office matches the hotel to your area and terminal on the callback.

Two rivers split the ground

The airport sits on a wedge of land where the Minnesota River runs into the Mississippi, and Bloomington shares that wedge with both terminals. Highland Park lies north of the Mississippi, Eagan east of the Minnesota. Each lot sits on a different bank, so each one changes which bridges your own drive and its shuttle cross, and the table on the front page counts the result for every area.

The pattern in the figures: for Terminal 1, Highland Park adds the fewest minutes from most areas north and east of the Mississippi; for Terminal 2 and from most areas south and west, Bloomington does. From Roseville, Highland Park adds 2 minutes for either terminal; from Edina, Bloomington adds 3 for Terminal 2; from Downtown Minneapolis it is Highland Park for Terminal 1 and Bloomington for Terminal 2.
